Ahhh...
Sigh... What is it about a neatly stacked cabinet full of perfectly sorted,
color-coded* dishes for my kids that brings such joy to my little soul?
.
It's just such a beautiful sight, I had to take a photo...
.
.
I don't expect many of you to understand this, but I just LOVE to be organized...
to the extreme!
Silly, I am sure (and I am the first to admit that it's probably right on the verge of unhealthy),
but I can't deny how very, very GOOD it feels!
(Insert a happy smile of satisfaction...)
.
*Some of you already know, and maybe I am sharing too much with the rest of you...
but when I say "color-coded", I mean that in a literal sense...
Each of my children is actually assigned a specific color (before birth),
and everything that belongs to that boy is always that color.
(I have lucked out so far that Kaden's favorite color is blue and Trevan loves red...
Everything for Daynen is green, and of course, he is still too little to know for sure,
but I am hoping that he will just be so used to it that it will grow on him!
And in case you are wondering, after much deliberation, Bronson will be orange.)
.
Sound crazy? Maybe...
But I ALWAYS know who remembered to put their dishes in the Dishwasher
or who's Art Supplies are still out in the Craft Room, and I love how easy it makes the little things in our life.
There is no fighting over who's is who's or who gets which one.
And for the record, they love this system, too.
.
So there... I said it... Now you know.

I really like your idea! It is the perfect way to keep track of who puts stuff away. When the kids were little the joke was always "Sheeba did it"! When no one would fess up on the mess or the thing that got broke it was always "Sheeba did it"! Why didn't I think OF color coding for them!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love your Blog, ideas and your many talents.
Good thing I am not your age as I KNOW I would be comparing myself to you all the time and feeling so inadequate! geesh! I even do it now!
You're just darling, people think I am a perfectionist....nope! you are the queen of it not me.
LOL I remember you in Young Women's and at camp...you are a perfectionist. However, I LOVE IT and wish I was more like you. Why I never thought of assigning the kids a color? What a smart idea. I am going to be trying that one. The cupboard looks amazing and I truly understand and appreciate how good it feels to have it that way. =)
My kids are assigned colors too but only on my white board where I TRY to keep track of their activities!
I think I have found you a new career! I know several people (including myself!) who would pay good money for you to organize their houses! I only wish (and my hubby really wishes) I could be organized! I honestly don't know where you find the time!?!
Sara, You are an organizational queen. I worship you.
I think you are a genious! If I had more than one child I would steal your wonderful, fabulous idea. You are not only organized but brilliant: know who puts what away, know what belongs to whome. You have made your life easier!
I am an extremely organized person as well. But your cubbards win!
So does that mean you are going to have one more to take the color yellow? I'd hate to see it go unused!!!
I think your cabinet looks pretty too! I delight in order as well!
I love that! I am totally with you on that! My kids have colors too. It espcially helps with baath towells. I love knowing who had not put their towell away.
I just came across this post. I love the idea of color coding!! Would you mind sharing where you got your plates and cups from? Thanks!!
